Pattern maker & garment constructor · Vernon, BC

The architecture behind a beautiful fit.

A successful garment begins before the final fabric is cut. Juliia develops the pattern, support, balance and construction method together — shaping a dress that looks refined and feels natural on the body.

Thoughtful, precise work

Where design becomes a wearable structure.

Pattern and construction decisions determine how a garment sits, supports and moves. Juliia approaches them as one connected discipline rather than separate steps.

Pattern development

An original pattern can be drafted and developed around the intended silhouette, measurements and construction of the garment.

Fit & balance

Proportions, grain, shaping and balance are refined so the garment sits correctly and responds naturally to movement.

Toile or sample fitting

A trial garment may be used to evaluate line, ease and construction before working in the selected final material.

Internal engineering

Support, closures, facings, lining and other internal elements are planned as part of the design, not added as an afterthought.

Dress construction

The piece is assembled and shaped with attention to fabric behaviour, finish quality and the way each layer works together.

Refinement & finishing

Fittings inform final adjustments before edges, closures, linings and decorative details are completed.

Your experience

A clear path from first conversation to final fitting.

  1. 01

    Define the garment

The design, use, measurements, materials and technical requirements are discussed before pattern work begins.

  2. 02

    Develop the pattern

The shape and construction are translated into pattern pieces and, where appropriate, a trial version for fitting.

  3. 03

    Test & correct

Fit, balance and movement are evaluated on the body and the pattern is refined from what the fitting reveals.

  4. 04

    Construct & finish

The final garment is cut, assembled, fitted and completed according to the agreed project scope.

Good to know

Questions about this service.

Is pattern making different from ordinary alterations?

Yes. Alterations change an existing garment. Pattern making develops the shapes used to create a new garment, considering measurements, design, balance, ease and construction from the beginning.

Can you construct the garment as well as make the pattern?

Yes. Juliia is both a pattern maker and garment constructor, allowing the pattern, fittings and final construction to be developed as one connected project.

Do all projects need a toile?

Not always. The need for a toile or sample depends on the design, material, fit risk and project scope. Juliia recommends the appropriate process after discussing the garment.

Can you work from a sketch or reference image?

A sketch or references can be a useful starting point. The final approach still needs to be adapted to the body, materials and construction rather than copied without technical development.
